Famous 'Afghan Girl'

Remember the picture of the girl above? I do. I remember back then seeing this girl on the cover of National Geographic and suddenly all of the people was talking about this girl and the look on her green eyes. Her name is Sharbat Gula.

This phenomenal picture was taken by a photographer Steve McCurry in 1985. And 17 years later after he captured this picture, Steve McCurry had been searching for her without success until in 2002, luck came to McCurry. He went to the camp and showed her photo to villagers and one came forward telling him that the girl had lived next door to him a decade ago. A couple of days later, the man returned with the girl's brother. McCurry said "His eyes were the same color as hers and as soon as we saw his eyes, we thought, 'This is amazing. This is closer than we've ever been." And after that he finally was able to see 'the girl'. She was 30 years old at that time. To prove that the she really is 'the girl', high-tech iris and facial recognition tests as well as an FBI forensic examiner was performed and concluded that it was the same person. And this is how she looks right now. (source from here)
